easier now. Soon almost all the metal from old cars will be reused. Another example of recycled material is glass. People collect glass bottles because they can return the bottles to the store for money. In the United States, some states require a deposit on glass bottles. When the bottle is sold, the customer pays for the bottle. If the bottle is returned, the customer gets the money back. Deposits on bottles encourage people to save them and take them back to the store for money. It is obvious that people can conserve resources if they recycle and they can save money too.
From the sample paragraphs above, it can be seen that a paragraph of example and illustration can be developed with only one example or with several examples and it may or may not have a concluding sentence as follows:
Paragraph development
Topic sentence+an example/examples+(concluding sentence)
Indicators of example/illustration:
for example (be) a case in point
for instance a case in point is…
a good example/illustration of that is… similarly
in the same way likewise
such as to illustrate
first, second, third, finally/last
Reasons
A writer may explain a main idea of a paragraph by giving a reason or reasons. This kind of approach to develop a paragraph is used on the basis of that there is a question (Why?) between the main idea and the sentences or supporting detail in the paragraph. If the detail explains the main idea by answering that question, the detail is a reason. However, the indicator “why” is not usually found in print; it is implied between the lines. Though there are not clear indicators to indicate the development, his readers can still judge this kind of method by inserting the question “Why?” between the topic sentence and the details. The following paragraph gives three reasons why television newscasts cannot be objective, and each reason in turn is more fully elaborated.
Media Bias

Reason 2
Reason 3
The public expects the media to report only facts, not judgments. It is not possible, however, for television news to be completely objective. For one thing, some judgment is required even to determine what the facts are. Reporters who are not eyewitnesses must draw conclusions from eyewitness accounts about what happened. Moreover, deciding what is news worthy requires judgment. The limits of time make it necessary to select only what is most important to viewers. That selection process is inevitably affected by the preferences and biases of editors and producers. Furthermore, television lends itself better to action scenes than to "talking heads," so we are more likely to see a demonstrator who gets violent than the orderly problem-solving discussion of a group of experts.
The following paragraph is developed with only one reason.
